WOMEN’S BIRTH CONTROL WITHOUT PRESCRIPTION PROPOSED BY TENNESSEE LAWMAKER

State Senator Steven Dickerson says he is going to introduce a bill that would let women in Tennessee acquire birth control without a prescription.  It would apply to women over the age of 18 and includes pills and potentially hormonal patch contraceptives and allow them to go directly to a pharmacist to get a prescription. Senator Dickerson says birth control isn’t very accessible to women who are low-income if they must see a doctor before getting contraceptives perhaps requiring missing work and being away from family.  Two states, Oregon and California already have statues that let women purchase birth control without a doctor’s prescription.
