WOMAN GETS SCAMMED BY THE IRS (NOT THE REAL ONE THIS TIME)

Graphic1It’s one thing to be badgered by the real IRS with audits and the like, but it’s another thing to be scammed by people impersonating the IRS.  Lately there’s been a series of calls made to homes in Cumberland County from people claiming to be from the IRS. The latest involved a Crossville woman who told Sheriff’s Deputies that she has received two phone calls from someone claiming to be with the IRS. The caller tells the victim that she faces a lawsuit if she does not pay taxes that she owes. That’s when the victim says she hangs up. The scammers are calling from 845-928-2408 and 888-741-3390. The scammers usually ask the victim to send them a prepaid money card. They can be very convincing as they often reveal a lot of personal information about their targets. Just a reminder, never give out any personal information over the phone to someone you don’t know and never send anyone money that may call your phone asking for it.
