It’s one thing to be badgered by the real IRS with audits and the like, but it’s another thing to be scammed by people impersonating the IRS.  Lately there’s been a series of calls made to homes in Cumberland County from people claiming to be from the IRS. The latest involved a Crossville woman who told Sheriff’s Deputies that she has received two phone calls from someone claiming to be with the IRS. The caller tells the victim that she faces a lawsuit if she does not pay taxes that she owes. That’s when the victim says she hangs up. The scammers are calling from 845-928-2408 and 888-741-3390. The scammers usually ask the victim to send them a prepaid money card. They can be very convincing as they often reveal a lot of personal information about their targets. Just a reminder, never give out any personal information over the phone to someone you don’t know and never send anyone money that may call your phone asking for it.
