THIS WEEKEND – THE WORLD COMES TO HOMESTEAD

The largest two day annual event in Cumberland County is scheduled this weekend.  It’s the Eleventh Annual Homesteads Apple Festival.  Over the years, the Apple Festival has seen upwards of eight thousand visitors coming from all over the U.S. to see the arts and crafts exhibits, hear great music from the stage, enjoy wonderful food and in general just have fun.  The event was created to raise funding to keep the Historic Homestead Tower and Museum open year round for visitors to experience the rich Homestead Heritage.  The Cumberland Homesteads was part of President Franklin Roosevelt’s “New Deal” designed to put Americans to work and obtain housing. This year the Apple Festival has been extended to run from 10am till 6pm both Saturday and Sunday.  Admission is only 5 Dollars for adults and kids 15 and under are admitted free.  Over 14 acts will be featured from the stage performing a variety of music on Saturday.  Sunday will feature great gospel groups and singers all day long.  A tractor show, fun for the kids, plenty of great food, dozens of crafts booths, lots of apples and apple pies are just part of enormous two day event.
