WARNING TO READERS
If you receive a message to confirm appointment with Medicare Advisory Board by 9:00 a.m. tomorrow with Link attached DO NOT DO IT. This is what our research unveiled.
You received a scam message. It is highly likely a phishing attempt because Medicare will never call, email, or text you uninvited to ask for personal information or to confirm an appointment. A legitimate message would not be phrased this way and would likely come through official mail or a patient portal.
What to do
  • Do not respond: Do not reply to the message or click on any links, as this can confirm your contact information to scammers.
  • Do not provide any information: Do not give out any personal details like your Medicare number, Social Security number, or financial information.
  • Hang up or delete the message: Disregard the communication and delete the message or hang up the phone.
  • Report the scam: Report the incident to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) at ReportFraud.ftc.gov or call Medicare’s fraud hotline at 1-800-MEDICARE (633-4227).

Why this is a scam

    • Unsolicited contact: Medicare does not initiate contact to ask for personal or financial information.
    • Sense of urgency: Scammers often create a false sense of urgency to pressure you into acting without thinking.
  • Impersonation: The message likely impersonates Medicare to gain trust.
  • Demand for personal information: Legitimate organizations will not ask for sensitive information like your Medicare, Social Security, or bank account numbers over the phone, email, or text.

There are many false texts and promises circulating right now and the best way to handle these messages is to contact the Medicare number on your card only. It is not advised to even Google a telephone number as they can lead to a scam but most important is DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS or follow any other instructions in these messages.
