Two people have died and two others are in critical condition after a train crashed into a car Friday evening in Harriman.

Three of the four people in the car were basketball players at Roane State Community College, including two siblings, according to the school’s athletic director.

A preliminary report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, states the vehicle was heading w

estbound on Tanglewood Drive when it attempted to cross a railroad crossing and was hit by a train.

According to the report, Darius J. Gallaher, 20, from Harriman, was driving the car when the crash occurred Friday night.

The report said the passengers were Roderick Drummond, 22, from Greenville, Sc., Jadah Gallaher, 18, from Harriman, and Hunter Crass, 20, from Harriman.

Roane State’s Athletic Director, Randy Nesbit, confirmed that Drummond and Darius Gallaher played on the men’s basketball team, while Jadah was part of the women’s team.

He also confirmed that Darius and Jadah were siblings.

According to THP, Roderick Drummond and Jadah Gallaher died as a result of the crash.

As of Saturday 2:30 p.m., Jadah’s brother, Darius Gallaher, and Hunter Crass were both listed in critical condition, according to UT Medical Center.

Crass’s father said his son suffered lacerations on his kidney, spleen, and liver. He also has a collapsed lung, cuts, and two broken ribs. However, as of Saturday afternoon, Hunter was no longer on a ventilator and is breathing on his own, according to his dad.

Hunter and his father gained attention in East Tennessee earlier this year when theyhelped pull three boys from an icy lake.

THP said on Friday evening that the car didn’t see the train before the train hit the car and pushed it down the tracks.

Two employees on the train were not hurt in the crash, according to THP.

The preliminary report also shows charges are pending.
