TWO KILLED IN MULTI-VEHICLE ACCIDENT ON I-40 NEAR 290 MILE MARKER SUNDAY

Two people were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 40 in Putnam County early Sunday morning.

It happened in the westbound lanes of I40 near mile marker 290.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported a vehicle was traveling in the eastbound lanes before crossing the median and striking a commercial vehicle.

The car went underneath the commercial vehicle and caught fire, killing the two people inside, according to the THP.

The driver of the commercial vehicle was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. No names have been released yet.
