TWO HUGE SINKHOLES STOP TRAFFIC ON ALCOA HIGHWAY THIS MORNING

All northbound lanes of Alcoa Highway just north of the University of Tennessee Medical Center are closed Wednesday morning due to a sinkhole and water main break.  Now two sinkholes are in the highway.

Southbound traffic is down to one lane on Wednesday morning.

Crews are diverting northbound traffic to John Sevier Highway.

The northbound lanes and two southbound lanes on Alcoa Highway will likely remain closed until Thursday morning, according to Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesperson Mark Nagi.

KUB crews will have to work on the water main break before state crews can repair the sinkholes. The water main break is about 60 feet from the sinkhole.
