TWO EAST TN SCHOOLS PLACED ON LOCKDOWN WEDNESDAY

Two Tennessee Schools, one Middle and the other East Tennessee were placed on lockdown Wednesday for different reasons.

Beaumont Elementary School in Knoxville was placed on lockdown due to a suspicious person in the area.

A message from the school’s principal, Missy Beltran, said law enforcement were investigating the suspicious person and the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution. She said school would let out at 2:45 p.m. as normal.

Beltran says all students were safe inside the building and the normal instructional day carried on as usual. No other details have been released on the situation.

Cookeville High School was placed on lockdown during lunch when students reported overheard a conversation about a shooting.  That shooting happened Sunday, March 27th during a home invasion in Cookeville. An 18-year-old was shot and taken to Vanderbilt from that incident.  Putnam County Director of Schools gave the following statement:

“All students, faculty, staff and visitors at Cookeville High School are safe and secure.

“Based upon a report of a potential verbal threat made by a CHS student to a parent that contacted local law enforcement, the CHS administration initiated standard lockdown procedures to secure the campus to provide law enforcement and school officials the opportunity to fully assess the validity and credibility of the verbal threat.

“The response is in accordance with our safety practices to ensure the safety of our students, employees, and visitors. The procedures are a result a coordinated effort of the Putnam County School System and multiple local law enforcement officials including our school resource officers School operation returned to normal at 1:15 p.m.
