A large truck ran off the interstate and landed on a busy highway below in East Knoxville.

The accident happened around 3 p.m. Tuesday at I-40 and Strawberry Plains.

Knoxville police say two trucks were traveling west on I-40 when one truck hit the other, causing it to slide over the side of the bridge and fall onto Strawberry Plains Pike. The truck did not hit any vehicles on Strawberry Plains.

Firefighters extracted the driver and he was flown by helicopter to UT Medical Center with what appeared to be serious injuries.

Officers are still investigating the crash.
