TN MOTHER, SON KILLED ON I-65 AFTER STOPPING TO HELP ACCIDENT VICTIM

A mother and son were killed on Interstate 65 in Franklin after stopping to help a driver who had crashed.

Kristi Clark, 34, and Carter Oakley, 10, stopped to help after an SUV hit a patch of black ice and rolled over near the exit for Highway 96 just after 9 p.m. Monday.

As they got out of their vehicle, both of them were struck and killed by a semi truck, according to the Franklin Police Department.

The boy died at the scene, and his mother was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Five people were in the SUV that overturned, and two of them were critically hurt. The other three were not injured.

“Kristi and her son, Carter, are heroes,” said Franklin Police Chief Deborah Faulkner in a news release. “These Good Samaritans put themselves in harm’s way to help a stranger. The goodness in their hearts that prompted them to do that will never be forgotten.”  (WSMV-TV)
