TN MAN KILLS SELF AFTER SHOOTING AND RUNNING OVER GIRLFRIEND FOLLOWING BREAK UP

womanranovermap-e1420204412970A man shot his girlfriend and then ran her over with a car in Cheatham County Thursday night.

According to Cheatham County Sheriff Mike Breedlove, it happened on Sams Creek Road near Marshall Woodard Road in Pegram, approximately 25 miles west of Nashville.

Breedlove wrote on his Facebook page that a teenager happened upon the scene and shielded the female victim from further injury.

The teen, 18-year-old Caleb Martin, then drove the woman to his home and she was later taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for treatment.

“It was really horrific to go through, but I’m glad I was able to help her. I’d redo it over again if I had to,” said Martin, a senior at Harpeth High School.

The suspect, Kenneth David Clinton, fled in the victim’s car from Cheatham County to Newsom’s Mill, located on the Davidson County side of Harpeth River State Park.

Sheriff Breedlove and a deputy, as well as Metro police officers, responded to that area. As they approached the car Clinton was in, they found him dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The victim, 29-year-old Jenna Newman, was released from the hospital over the weekend. Sheriff Breedlove said Monday she is recovering at home.  She said it happened after he gave her a ring but she wanted to break off the romance, he didn’t.
