THP WARNS MOTORISTS TO NOT WEAR SOLAR GLASSES WHILE DRIVING, NO PARKING ON ROADS

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is reminding motorists that parking in emergency lanes and the side of the road is not allowed during the Great American Eclispe on Monday, August 21. It is illegal to park on the shoulders of the interstates and state highways for any reason other than an emergency. Parking on the shoulders creates a crash hazard for you and other vehicles. The THP will be out in full force as heavy traffic is expected across the Volunteer State and especially in areas in the Path of Totality. Motorists who wish to view the solar eclipse should exit the highway to a safe location that is clearly designated for public parking. Motorists should also not wear eclipse glasses while driving. The solar glasses are totally black until you look at the sun or very intense light.  Driving with the glasses on would be like driving blind. During the eclipse please put on your headlights just as you would while driving in the evening. Keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road so that everyone can enjoy the Great American Eclipse.
