THP RELEASES NAMES OF DRIVERS & FATALITY IN THURSDAYS I-40 CRASH
The Tennessee Highway Patrol has released the names of the individuals involved in the crash last Thursday that stalled traffic in both directions of I-40 for four hours. The THP reports that two SUV’s traveling eastbound ‘made contact’ with each other before the 322 mile marker (near Peavine Road Exit). After the SUVs made contact one of the vehicles, a 2011 Toyota being driven by 72-year-old Michael Copeland of Cookeville, shot across the median into the path of a FedEx tractor-trailer rig in the westbound lane of I-40 and crashed head-on into the big rig – killing Mr. Copeland. The other SUV, a 2022 Buick SUV driven by 40-year-old Joshua Fields of Alcoa Tn, continued on to the next exit before stopping. Mr. Fields was not injured according to the THP report. The driver of the FedEx truck, 59-year-old Bobby Shires of Fincastle VA, suffered minor injuries. According to District Attorney Bryant Dunaway, there is an investigation into the wreck.

So was this a road rage confrontation as was reported earlier or was that a misconception? That would be a severe way to ‘get even’ with another motorist, but then we often hear of bullets being fired in anger at other cars. (???)

Sounds like someone just wandered outside their lane. I would think the 2022 would have the keep lane assist on it. 🤷🏻♀️
