SUSPICIOUS PERSON WITH WEAPONS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY NEAR CCHS
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A “suspicious” person was taken into custody Wednesday morning near Cumberland County High School. We now know who that person is, and we know that he had weapons on his person.
According to a joint statement between the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Crossville Police Department and Cumberland County Schools, the school-resource officer at Cumberland County High School took a “suspicious suspect” into custody off-campus just after 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Director William Stepp assured parents that there “is no current threat to students.”
Following the arrest, an investigation began with the District Threat Task Force, which consists of the school district, CCSO, CPD, Department of Homeland Security, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
In a later update, CCSO officials identified the suspect as 33-year-old Robert Alva Sardella out of Maryville.
CCSO also said Sardella had a loaded handgun, stun device, expandable baton, a chemical weapon and ammunition in a backpack.
