SUSPECT GAS PRICE GOUGING? REPORT IT ONLINE TO DEPT. OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS

Over the past couple of days, many consumers are feeling the crunch of the gas pipeline leak in Alabama. TEMA has issued statements urging Tennessean’s to not panic and buy gasoline normally – don’t make a run on gas stations.  Well, that didn’t work too well.  Several fuel outlets in Crossville ran out of gas yesterday and may not get their supply replenished until today or Monday.  Most stations report that they’ve had an overflow of customers who are trying to stock up on gas out of fear, real or perceived, that gas will be in short supply.  There has also been several reports of price gouging by some gas stations which is against the law, albeit a vague law.  The price of regular gas has jumped by 50 cents per gallon or more in just a few hours at some stations.  Keeping in mind, some of these outlets raised their prices on gas they’ve had on hand already, not on new shipments they may have to pay a higher price for.  Consumers can report price gouging using a form HERE provided by Tennessee Department Consumer Affairs
