STORMS ROCKED EAST TENNESSEE MONDAY, COULD BE DAYS BEFORE POWER RESTORED

A powerful storm marched across the plateau downing trees and power lines, taking some roofs with it and then rolled into East Tennessee and doing more damage.  Cumbeland County EMA along with the road department spent all afternoon and into the evening responding to several damage reports.  High winds took trees down across power lines and roads.  Some areas of the county may not get power restored for days because of power poles snapped into from the winds.  Some main highways, such as highway 68 in the south eastern part of the Cumberland county had trees across the road making it impassable. In East Tennessee, Facebook photos posted what looks like a tornado, not just straigh-line winds, hit a few areas.  In Roane County a tree fell on a school bus. No one was injured.  That’s the case for most of the storm damaged counties – no injuries reported.  At one point after the storm, VEC reported over 18,000 customers were without power in 13 counties.

Loudon High School will be closed Tuesday, Aug. 8 due to storm damage.

Fall Creek Falls State Park is currently closed. Both park entrances impassable due to downed trees caused by storms. The park is without power, internet, and phone.
