A very mysterious accident in Scott county has sent a woman to the hospital after a steel rod smashed through her windshield, piercing the woman’s jaw and pinning her to the car seat as she drove along Highway 63.

The Oneida woman was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center and is in intensive care. UT Medical has listed her in critical condition.

State troopers are baffled by the incident and are investigating. They say the portion of the roadway does not have an overpass or bridge.
