A Sparta man has died after shooting at deputies, being chased and ultimately shot by a White County Deputy.  26-year-old Koltlee Whitson shot at the Deputies while they were trying to make a traffic stop.  It all started at 3:30 Wednesday in Sparta.  Whitson-Koltlee-Rij-1Whitson was being stopped for an outstanding warrant from Cookeville.  As officers approached Whitsons car he took off at a high-speed and shot at the pursuing officers with a handgun. The thirteen mile chase led deputies to Whitson’s parents’ farm in the county.  Once they arrived on the farm, Whitson turned his car around and charged the deputies.  A deputy got out of his cruiser and attempted to stop Whitson who drew down on the officer with a hand gun. The deputy fired at Whitson as he drove by the officer.  Whitson continued to drive until his rammed his truck into an unmarked police car.  Whitson had suffered at least two-gun shot wounds and was airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center where he died overnight. No officers were injured according to reports. An investigation is underway by the TBI into the incident.
