SMALL CHILD KEEPS BUC-EE’S SHOPLIFTER FROM BEING TAKEN TO JAIL AFTER THREE POLICE DEPARTMENTS GET INVOLVED

On December 8, 2023 a City Officer responded to Buc-ee’s on Genesis Rd for a theft report. Prior to arrival dispatch advised that a Deputy that was working at Buc-ee’s had the male detained and was at the back of the building. Upon arrival the officer made contact with the Deputy Sgt. who had the male that was shoplifting detained in his patrol car. The Sergeant advised that he had a Fairfield Officer responding to translate what the male was saying due to a language barrier.
An Officer from Fairfield Glade Police Department arrived on scene and spoke with the male who was identified as Jorge Luis Ariles Villegas. The responding Fairfield Officer advised that Mr. Villegas stated that he stole the jacket because he didn’t have his money with him.
Officer’s later learned that Mr. Villegas had a small child that was with him and was on a bus to New York. The Buc-ee’s employee advised that the total value of the item stolen was $29.98. Due to Mr. Villegas having a small child with him and was traveling the City Officer issued him a citation in lieu of arrest for theft of property and gave him a court date of 01/08/2024.
The stolen property was returned to Buc-ee’s.
