A Spring City man was arrested Monday after law enforcement officials said he discharged a rifle outside the Spring City Municipal Building as well as at a local business at around 11:30 a.m.

Officers with the Spring City Police Department and deputies with the Rhea County Sheriff’s Department [RCSD] arrested Keith Guthrie, 45, of Spring City, and said he will likely face numerous charges in the shooting incident in which no one was injured.

RCSD Investigator Mike Bice said Guthrie approached the Spring City Police Department office, which is housed in the municipal building, and fired a round from a rifle.

“He also was pointing the weapon at people,” Bice said.

While law enforcement officials were responding to the scene, Bice said that Guthrie traveled to a nearby park and allegedly pointed the rifle at people there before traveling again to a local car wash, where he discharged his firearm for a second time.

Officers and deputies caught up to Guthrie at the car wash and were able to apprehend him, Bice said.
