SERVICES FOR FORMER SHERIFF BUTCH BURGESS ANNOUNCED

Funeral Services for former Sheriff Butch Burgess have been announced.  Visitation will be Monday, May 16th from 10am till 2pm at 1st United Methodist Church in Crossville.  Funeral service will follow at 2pm.  Burial will follow service at Big Lick Cemetery.

ANNOUNCEMENT FROM HOOD FUNERAL HOME

Funeral services for Eucle “Butch” Burgess Jr. age 65 of Crossville, TN passed away May 13, 2016. He was born August 27, 1950 in Cumberland County, TN the son of Eucle Sr. and Cora Wilbanks Burgess. Butch served 16 years as Sheriff of Cumberland County, where he was instrumental in the start of the SRO Program as well as being a founder of the House of Hope. Before taking on the responsibilities of Sheriff, he spent many years as Director of the Boys Club in our county. He was a graduate of Cumberland County High School where he played football. He also played softball, holding the record for many years for the most runs in a single game during the Smokey Mountains Tournaments. He and his wife Vicki spent 20 years as foster parents, fostering more than 40 children during that time.

He loved his farm and enjoyed working it. He also enjoyed music and playing the guitar.

He is survived by his wife- Vickie Shadden Burgess, daughter and son-in-law- Debbie and Dave Beaty, son and daughter-in-law- Keith and Kellye Hinch, sons- Chad Burgess, Lynn Burgess, Nick Burgess and Keith Sadula, grandchildren- Justin and Melanie Beaty, Jake and Stacey Beaty, Jacie Beaty, Jenna Beaty, Cole Hinch and Kyle Hinch, great grandchildren- Ella Troglin and Amelia Beaty and sister- Linda Milam.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law- Sherry and Darrell Smith, brother-in-law- Jim Milam and father and mother-in-law- Raymond and Evelyn Shadden.

Funeral services will be held Monday May 16, 2016 at 2pm at First United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Big Lick Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10am-2pm at the church prior to the service. Donations may be made to the House of Hope or Cumberland House Hospice.
