SENATOR BAILEY, REPRESENTATIVE SEXTON CHALLENGE FEDERAL GOV’T TRANSGENDER MANDATE

District 15 State Senator Paul Bailey had posted on Facebook his intentions of fighting the Federal Government mandate to allow transgender students to use the restroom and locker room that fit their “sex-identity” rather than their biological sex.  Bailey represents Cumberland, Jackson, Overton, Bledsoe, Putnam, and White Counties

We spoke with State Representative Cameron Sexton who said the House is also sending a similar letter to the Governor challenging the mandate and he is signing it.  Rep. Sexton represents the 25th District including Cumberland, Van Buren and Putnam Counties.

Here is Senator Bailey’s statement:

I, along with several other Tennessee State Senators, have joined in sending separate letters to the TN Attorney General and Governor encouraging them to join with North Carolina, Texas and other states to challenge this Federal overreach into our state and local school systems. This is clearly a revision in interpretation of a federal law which has stood for decades which never contemplated such a construction. I am confident we will do whatever is necessary to preserve the dignity, privacy and safety of Tennessee school children, without the interference of Federal Government.
