On 5/30/2023 at approximately 1:45 P.M. a city officer responded to the police department in reference to a scam. He made contact with the victim, who stated that she was asked to work from home through a company by the name of Spherion Co.

She stated that she spoke to an individual (unknown name) through the “Telegram” App, who stated that she needed to go get gift cards and send them the numbers on the back after she was sent 14,775.52 in three checks into her bank account. The bank verified that the checks were fraudulent and/or altered.

The victim did go to Walmart on the evening of 5/16/2023 and bought $4,500 worth of gift cards.
