SAYING GOODBYE TO AN AMAZING CITIZEN OF CUMBERLAND COUNTY

10995999_929401657102365_5857286026875704800_nOne of Cumberland County’s most active and productive citizens is being laid to rest today.  Virgie Lewis has served in over 30 clubs and organizations throughout her 97 years.  She even had a day set aside for her when the Mayor proclaimed March 14th 2006 as “Virgie Lewis Day”.  Virgie is a past recipient of the “Woman of the year” award.  Ms. Lewis served continually on the Cumberland County Fair Board – dating back to 1946 when the Fair reorganized after the war until her death as an honorary member.  Virgie was beloved by all who knew her for the generosity, kindness and love she gave so freely to her family and community. In 1966 she was a founding member of the area United Fund and in 1975,  she and her late husband of 75 years, Elmo, were co-founders of The ARC.  Over the years Virgie has accumulated more than 33 plaques and Certificates of Appreciation for the time and energy she poured into every community activity she worked within including her love for the Lord’s Church.

Virgie Lewis’ life will be remembered and celebrated today at 3pm at the Main St. Church of Christ, with visitation from 2-3 PM prior to the service.
