There is a push to change railroad crossings in Roane County. One woman decided something needed to be done after two people were killed when their car was hit by a train.

Tasha Clayborne once lived behind the tracks in Harriman where a deadly crash took place and she wants to make sure that doesn’t happen again.

Balloons, basketballs and flowers now rest near the railroad tracks on Mountain View Road. It’s where Roderick Drummond and Jadah Gallaher lost their lives Friday when a train hit their car.

“It shouldn’t have happened,” says Tasha Clayborne.

Clayborne believes the accident could have been prevented if crossing arms and lights had been in place.

“Where you stop is basically right on the tracks almost and you have to back up if there is a train coming…it actually goes into a curve on the actual road so going up to the tracks coming out, it curves, it’s a horrible intersection,” adds Clayborne.

She is hoping the Facebook page she created, ‘No Crossing Left Out’ will promote railroad crossing safety.

“Me and my mother had been talking about the cross bars and how dangerous things were and I was like I’m going to open this up,” she says.

But it’s not just this intersection that she wants to see become safer.

Clayborne says, “If enough people could stress how much we need this, it could possibly cause us to be able to get cross bars, even here or nationwide they could start fixing the more dangerous ones first.”

She’s gathering more information and plans to contact the railroad companies to talk about what can be done to make the crossings safer.  NO CROSSING LEFT OUT FACEBOOK PAGE
