The noise ordinance is just a proposal at this point. The Roane County Commission will have a work session on it Tuesday.

“I think we really got to dig into it,” Creswell said. “The biggest thing is it’s trying to objectively approach complaints that officials will receive. Instead of just saying subjectively that’s too loud or too late, it’s trying to put some parameters on what you can and can’t do.”

A draft of the ordinance provided by Creswell has 17 definitions, including what such things as noise, sound pressure, impulsive sound and ambient noise mean in the context of the proposed ordinance.

The draft also mentions when construction activities could take place in the county.

The draft indicates that enforcement of the noise ordinance would be up to the County Building and Codes Office and the Roane County Sheriff’s Office.
