ROANE COUNTY OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING UNDER INVESTIGATION

Media reports today say a Rockwood Police Officer has been involved in a shooting incident on Rockwood Mountain. According to reports, Officer Brandon Smith spotted a Jeep, possibly stolen out of Crossville, traveling on Old Airport Road in Rockwood. When the officer attempted to make a traffic stop, the suspect fled from the scene. Officer Smith pursued the suspect onto an old dirt trail located just past the interstate overpass on Rockwood Mountain. At some point during the chase, the officer left his patrol car on foot and confronted the suspect where shots were fired. The suspect was wounded and Roane County Rescue Squad was called in. The suspect, who is yet to be identified, was transported to UT Medical Center and is said to be in stable condition. The case has been turned over to the TBI for further investigation.
