REVIEW: STEPPING BACK IN TIME TO A DELICIOUS TODAY – BIG JOHNS BARBECUE

big-john-s-bbq-headerWe’re  beginning a new feature of Crossville News First today called simply: REVIEW  It will feature, from time to time, a (non-paid) review of something going on in our town: A movie, restaurant, concert etc.  Today I went back in time with a visit to a new eatery in Crossville.  Well not so new, but a new location.  Big Johns BBQ.  Now John and I go back a few years and I’ve always enjoyed his barbecue – quite possibly the best I’ve ever had.  But John has done moved his outfit to the former Nail’s Dairy Mart location on 70 East in Crossville.  If you’re not old enough to know what Nail’s Dairy Mart is or not from around these parts, you might just save yourself some time now and move on to the next story. BUT, if you DO remember Nail’s Dairy Mart – you’ll remember some good times of old pulling up to the front, going up to the window and ordering a burger and fries or someone coming out to your car to take your order.  Well John has revived that tradition.  He’s painted and fixed up the old building and now is serving his very popular barbecue and all the fixins.  I got to visit Big John’s today and had a BBQ plate with baked beans, cole slaw and potato salad.  It was all just awesome.  I’ve included a link to his website so you can see all his menu offerings.  Most anyone you talk to around these parts will tell you it’s hard to beat Big Johns Barbecue and that is a fact.  Then, to top off my lunch – John brought out a cup of the most delicious peach ice cream ever to touch my taste buds.  Now John is going to crank up the curb service soon but today I just had to go inside and revisit a piece of Crossville’s heritage.  I don’t know for sure now long, but Nail’s Dairy Mart was part of  many lives in this town for decades.  It was very special to take a trip down memory lane and have just a wonderful meal of John Teeple’s BBQ and fixins’.  I highly recommend you visit Big Johns if you want a mouth watering lunch or dinner.  John tells me he’s open from lunchtime till 7pm weekdays and Saturday’s till 3pm.  If you wanna know more about Big John’s or call ahead for an order – CLICK HERE.  Trust me, it’s well worth a try if you’ve never experienced Big John’s Barbecue.
