RESTAURANT REVIEW: CUMBERLAND MT STATE PARK RESTAURANT

Enjoyed Father’s Day dining at Cumberland Mt. State Park Restaurant.  They now feature their buffet on Sundays only.  We have eaten at the Park for decades and mostly enjoy all their food.

The buffet was closed during Covid so it was a bit disappointing – they had told us they would not be reopening the buffet after Covid.  Surprisingly, they did. We probably eat at the Park on average once per month…always on Sundays.  This past Sunday our entire party was pleased to announce the food was much better.  I’ve always had their roast beef from the buffet – and in the past it had a slight chlorine taste to me. Almost like it was coming from their water. The fried chicken also was less than favorable in the past.  Too much fried batter on the chicken and the actual chicken kinda dry and not very flavorful. This past Sunday offered a great surprise.  Everything on the buffet was wonderful. The creamed corn appeared and tasted like it was homemade in the restaurant, delicious. The roast beef tasted like well…delicious roast beef.  Very tasty. And the fried chicken was a definite departure from previous times.  Very crispy – but not too crispy – and the chicken was delicious. The wait staff was very helpful and attentive.  Sunday was packed with diners which was expected on Fathers Day. Our only disappointment was the change in bread.  They have changed their bread to a yeast roll which was not as good as the previous rolls. The salad bar was very fresh too. Then there was the banana pudding.  Goodnight Irene. It was to die for. It felt like the Park had changed the cook staff or at least the head cook.  The food was exceptional. And you can’t beat the atmosphere. Dining while looking out over the lake and beautiful trees through those gigantic windows.   The cost:  Three buffets ran $54 total with drinks and three senior discounts. I definitely recommend the Park restaurant next time you want an enjoyable and delicious Sunday dining out experience.
