REPORT: CROSSVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEMBER COMES TO MEETING ARMED

In the final few weeks before the City Council Elections, tension continues to build and is causing some concern among folks who attend the Council meetings. We’re not sure if it is the first time or not, but according to a report by fellow journalist Jim Young, at least one Crossville City Council Member showed up at Friday’s special called meeting – armed.  In Young’s report here, Councilman Jesse Kerley apparently attended the meeting with hand gun in public view holstered to his back with a belt holster. For months, animosity has been demonstrated between Council Members Souza and Kerley to the point both are scheduled for a court appearance next month over an assault charge from Souza to Kerley stemming from an encounter after a meeting this past June.   For some time now, at least one council member, Pam Harris, has a police officer escort to her car after meetings at City Hall.  Kerley nor Souza is running for re-election in the upcoming City Election. In Young’s report, Mayor Mayberry is reported as saying the matter of firearms at the Council meetings will be addressed in a future meeting.
