PUTNAM COUNTY COMMISSIONER INDICTED ON THEFT AND WEAPONS CHARGE

A recent investigation conducted by the Cookeville Police Department has resulted in the indictment of Putnam County District 2 Commissioner Michael G. Scott Stevens.

Information was presented to the Putnam County Grand Jury on Monday December 7th.

A True Bill was returned for Mr. Stevens’ indictment.  Mr. Stevens was indicted on multiple counts of theft and one count relating to an illegal weapon.  The theft charges include one class “C” felony for Theft Over $10,000.00; ten class “D” felonies for Theft Over $1,000.00; one class “E” felony for Theft Over $500.00; and three class “A” misdemeanors for Theft Under $500.00.   The Possession of a Prohibited Weapon is a class “E” felony.  Mr. Stevens’ bond was set at $20,000.00

 

Additional arrests are expected in this case.

Meantime District Attorney Bryant Dunaway says the 13th Judicial District will recuse itself from the case due to possible conflicts of interest .

Instead the case will be passed along to an Assistant District Attorney in the 15th District which represents Macon, Trousdale, Wilson, and Jackson Counties.

Many now wonder if Stevens will still serve on the county commission.
