POLL: MAJORITY AGAINST CROSSVILLE WATER TRANSFER REFERENDUM

Local reporter Jim Young has posted a Facebook poll asking if the readers are for or against the upcoming referendum to allow the City of Crossville to transfer its water department to the Cumberland Plateau Water Authority if the City deems it is a good idea.  The City cannot transfer the water department to CPWA unless there is a favorable vote among City voters in the upcoming referendum.  The referendum doesn’t make the transfer happen, it only gives the City Council the authority to give up the City Water department to the CPWA should the Council agree its best for the City in a Council vote.  Many City water customers outside the city limits are upset that while they pay for City water they are not allowed to vote in the referendum.  Customers say this is akin to taxation without representation meaning that if the City is possibly going to give up the Water Department to CPWA, which may or may not produce higher water rates, all customers should have a voice in the referendum. The City Council points out that the Crossville City Charter actually states the referendum must be contained to registered City Voters only.

As of Sunday at 8am the Jim Young Poll shows 134 people against the City referendum and 55 people for it.  There’s no way to know if those participating in the poll are City voters. May be an image of text that says 'VOTE DANNY R. WYATİ YATT BACK TO COMMON SENSE 248-1451 248. 1451 CITY COUNCI 두]'
