POLICE FIND EVIDENCE OF COCAINE SMUGGLED IN PUPPIES AFTER RETRIEVING STOLEN VEHICLE WITH SPIKE STRIPS

Last week, the Mt. Juliet Police Department was in pursuit of a ‘09 Nissan Rogue that was stolen from Nashville on 2/11 during an armed robbery. After using spike strips, the car stopped when it became disabled near Old Hickory Blvd and I-40. All three occupants, 2 adult males, and 1 adult female were arrested. They were also all wanted for various charges in Nashville and Rutherford County.

Other items located in the car indicated further criminal activity that is under investigation. Meth and marijuana were found in the SUV, and one suspect stated he swallowed fentanyl during the pursuit and medics were contacted.

Two puppies were also in the SUV. The day after the pursuit, Animal Control officers located plastic baggie material in one of the puppy’s stools. Both puppies were then rushed to a veterinarian for a comprehensive exam, and both tested positive for cocaine. The driver of the vehicle and the puppies’ owner, 22-year-old Shanchez Beddingfield of Nashville, was charged further with aggravated animal cruelty & evidence tampering.

According to the Mt. Juliet Police, the pups are doing fine.
