COOKEVILLE COUPLE CHOSEN TO GET SIX FROZEN EMBYOS

embryosA Cookeville couple has been chosen to receive six frozen embryos produced by a Mount Juliet couple.

After a Facebook appeal, the Galloways were picked by Angel and Jeff Watts, who had placed the embryos with the National Embryo Donation Center in Farragut.

The Wattses already have two sets of twins, thanks to in vitro fertilization. They were happy with their family size, but they wanted to find a proper home for the six remaining embryos left over from the fertilization process.

It was important to Angel Watts that the embryos be placed in a stable home with Tennessee ties to a couple in a loving relationship.

And she wanted to ensure that her children could grow up to know the embryos as they developed in childhood. After all, they are genetic relatives.

After turning to Facebook with their story, it took less than three weeks for the Wattses to find the right fit – the Galloways. Hundreds of people had reached out to them after their posted their message.

The Galloways hope to complete the transfer by May.

“Meeting them and seeing their children and seeing how they interact with the family and their interests as a whole is very similar to my husband and I,” said Rayn Galloway, 26.

Said Angel Watts: “We will be meeting them, all along. They’ll know us but they won’t know us as parents. ”

Fertility doctors say very few laws in Tennessee cover these kinds of arrangements. Taking into account the Facebook angle, it’s pretty much unchartered territory.

That’s one reason experts strongly encourage counseling for anyone going through an open donation such as the Galloways.
