ONE MORE TIME, ATTEMPT TO OUST CROSSVILLE CITY MANAGER BY COUNCIL MEMBER

CNF has learned that yet another attempt is being made to oust Crossville City Manager David Rutherford.  Not many weeks ago, two city council members, Pam Harris and Danny Wyatt, called for a special meeting with the intent of demanding Rutherfords dismissal.  After a discussion by the Council (Councilman Souza was absent) Harris had changed her mind and voted against Rutherfords removal.  Jesse Kerley felt the Council hadn’t given Rutherford a fair chance at improving a good working relationship with the Council and also voted “no”.  Mayor Mayberry voted “no” leaving Councilman Danny Wyatt the lone ‘yes’ vote. The motion to remove Rutherford failed 3-1 against.  Now, Councilman Kerley is calling for Rutherfords resignation.  According to sources, Kerley feels Rutherford has committed gross negligence by violating the city spending policy.  Kerley has asked for a special called meeting Monday at noon to ask for Rutherfords dismissal and appoint an interim City Manager.  Sadly, many residents feel the City Council is simply not effective due to the many instances of internal squabbles between the council members for quite some time. One city voter told us that he doesn’t think Crossville is moving forward at all with the continuing bickering between City Council Members.  A former employee of Ficosa blames the closing of the Crossville automotive manufacturer and the decision to move the plant to Cookeville entirely on the struggling City Council.
