MAN PUNCHES SON IN HEAD AND PULLS GUN OVER ONLINE UNEMPLOYMENT

On 09/05/22, City units responded to Ridgeway Dr. for a possible physical domestic. Officers arrived on scene and made contact with a male standing in the front yard. The male was identified as Mark Filley Sr. who stated he and his wife returned home from the lake and their son who lives there was home. Mr. Filley Sr. stated their son began yelling and cussing at him because he could not figure out his unemployment online. Mr. Filley Sr. stated his son continued to cuss him and call him names. Mark Filley Sr. stated when his son cussed him once more he walked over and with a closed fist struck his son on the head and after he hit him his son got up, grabbed a pipe from a wind chime and held it up. Mr. Filley Sr. then went and retrieved a 38 special revolver from the drawer and held it.

I made contact with the son who stated he and his father began arguing over unemployment and why no money was in his account.  The son  tried to talk to his dad about it but realized his father was in a “mood” so their was no point in talking to him, and stated he said “ef it, I don’t want to talk about it then!” and that’s when his father walked over and punched him in the side of the head. The son then stated he got up and grabbed the piece of pipe from the wind chime and held it up and that’s when his father retrieved the firearm from the drawer. The son stated they argued for a few more minutes then his father called 911.

After further investigation the officer found Mark Filley Sr. to be the primary aggressor and placed him under arrest for domestic assault. The firearm was retrieved and given to his wife to be locked up in their safe. The son refused any help from Avalon or law enforcement and refused to fill out a statement form. Once in intake Mark Filley Sr. was read his bond conditions and stated he understood them and would comply.
