LAS MARGARITAS RECEIVES INITIAL LOW SCORE FROM HEALTH DEPARTMENT

In a recent health inspection report published on February 5, 2026,

Las Margaritas Mexican Restaurant and Cantina (Woodmere Mall location) in Crossville, TNinitially received a passing but low score of 79.

 

 

 

 

The Tennessee Department of Health inspector identified several critical and non-critical violations:

Pest Activity: A live cockroach was observed crawling on a food preparation table.

Contaminated Equipment: A boiling pot stored as “clean” was found to contain bugs and cobwebs.

Hygiene & Handling: A server was seen placing tortillas on a plate with bare hands, and another employee wiped gloved hands on a dirty apron before handling food.

Food Storage: Stuffed peppers in the reach-in freezer were left uncovered.

Sanitation: A wet wiping cloth used for tables was left on a prep table instead of being kept in a sanitizer bucket.

Facility Maintenance: The kitchen floors were noted as generally dirty, and there was black buildup and ice accumulation on the prep cooler’s condenser.

Personal Items: A cell phone, cup, and other personal items were improperly stored on food equipment.

Following the initial inspection, the restaurant corrected these critical violations and received a significantly improved follow-up grade of 93.
