JURY DUTY PHONE SCAM REPORTED IN THE AREA

resizeThere’s yet another phone scam making the rounds in the region. This time it involves jury duty.  The caller claims to be an official with the local sheriff’s office. The victim is then told that they have missed their jury duty summons and now have a warrant for their arrest. Victims are then instructed to purchase a prepaid card and send it to the caller to clear up the matter.  The scammer behind the call has been tricking people out of their money for at least a year now, but has been able to elude law enforcement while milking thousands of dollars from unsuspecting victims. Authorities say if you receive such a call, hang up immediately and call the Sheriff’s Department.
