INVESTIGATION CONTINUES FOR DOUBLE AUTO FATALITY THURSDAY
Investigators are still working to find out what happened early Thursday morning that sent a pickup truck veering of Highway 70 E just outside Crossville, crashing into a parked log trailer and killing the two occupants. Killed was a 42 year Robert Thomas Montoya of Pensacola, FL the other occupant was 23 year old Lucas Johnson of Crossville. Johnson was the driver of the pickup truck.
The crash occurred on Hwy. 70 E across from The Way of the Cross Independent Baptist Church and just east of the entrance to the Knights of Columbus facility.
A Ford F250 pickup traveling toward Crossville left the right side of the road east of the Amerigas office and traveled across both lanes and off the left side of the road, slamming head-on into a parked log truck trailer. According to the THP, the logging trailer was legally parked 2o feet off the highway.
The wreck scene was discovered around 5:15 a.m. by an off-duty Cumberland County volunteer firefighter who was on his way to work at Amerigas. First responders to the scene told investigators that the engine was cool to the touch, indicating the crash had occurred quite some time before it was discovered.
