INFORMATION AND IDENTITIES OF FATALITIES IN FRIDAY’S MASSIVE I-40 CRASH-EXPLOSION

Three people died in a massive crash and subsequent explosion Friday afternoon on I-40. Killed in the wreck were 44-year-old Erik S. New of Tullahoma, 60-year-old Noel Feliciano of Winchester, VA, and 50-year-old Nancy E. Tooley of Thompkinsville, KY. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says that New was driving a 2000 Peterbilt truck tractor in the eastbound lane of I-40 shortly after 1:30 PM and suddenly left the road, crossed the median into the westbound lanes at the Genesis Rd exit.  The Peterbilt struck Tooley’s 2016 Nissan Sentra, traveling westbound, causing it to go airborne.  The truck tractor then struck a Freightliner car hauler driven by Feliciano head-on. Both trucks then came to rest in the middle of the westbound lanes where they burst into flames. A fourth vehicle driven by 46-year-old Dwight A. Crosswhite swerved into the median to avoid the crash but then struck several pieces of debris. Both Crosswhite and a passenger were unharmed. A passenger in the Nissan, 66-year-old Jack E. Tooley, was injured and airlifted to UT Medical Center by Lifestar for unknown injuries. TDOT closed down a portion of that roadway for several hours while traffic could be rerouted through Crossville.
