The Department of Safety & Homeland Security has released the stats on who is packing heat in the Volunteer State. According to the report, there are 7,382 current valid Tennessee handgun carry permit holders in Cumberland County. The number is even higher in neighboring Putnam County at 8,708. Fentress County records 2,290 handgun permits; Morgan 2,626; Bledsoe 1,513; Rhea 3,427; Roane 7,202; and White has 3,076 current handgun carry permit holders. Shelby County has the highest number of people legally toting firearms at 68,539. Lake County has the least at 309. Statewide, 628,427 people are valid handgun carry permit holders, which is a little more than 9 percent of Tennessee’s 6.770 million residents.
