After a stand off with law enforcement in Morgan County, Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Steve Cochran said a man took his own life Friday night.

Cochran said a suspect broke into his estranged wife’s home on Riverview Street in Oakdale around 6 p.m. Local 8 News later confirmed the suspect’s name was Edward Wells.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, along with Roane County’s SWAT team and members of the Harriman Police Department convinced Wells to release the unidentified woman, but he would not come out of the home.

Neighbors say dozens of law enforcement officers surrounded the home while they tried to negotiate with the suspect.  According to sources Wells was holding hostage his estranged wife.  He eventually released the woman before taking his own life.  FULL STORY-WVLT
