11059329_1081009808579455_1182308070684541917_nA long time educator in Cumberland County has passed away.  Ms Hellon Potts taught school in Cumberland County for 30 years. Her first year of teaching took place in a one room school-house in Crab Orchard. She would catch a ride to the school-house, bring in firewood and start the fire so that when her students arrived they would have a warm classroom. She spent most of her tenure at Homestead Elementary.   All of her years were spent teaching first and second grades.   Hellon Potts was married to the late Ed Potts for sixty six years until his death last November.  Many residents of Crossville had Ms Potts as their teacher and have fond memories of her patience , kindness , and love for children. Always a lady. Hellon and Ed had one daughter, Debra, who also began her teaching career along side her mother at Homestead Elementary School in 1980. Ms Potts was 86.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 17th at 4 pm at Bilbrey Funeral Home with burial to follow at Green Acres Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3-4 at BFH. Survivors include daughter Debra Jean Martin.
Memorials can be sent to Alzheimer’s Tennessee Inc.
