54203b6ad43ec.imageCumberland County High School has announced Harry D. Sabine as the 2014 Hall of Fame inductee.

Sabine was the valedictorian of the Class of 1958 at Cumberland County High School. While attending CCHS he was a member of the Student Council and served as a delegate to the Boys State.

He continued his formal education at The University of Tennessee in Knoxville where he received his degree in business administration and a law degree.  He has practiced law in the community since 1968.

Sabine served as a captain in the Marine Corps, including one tour of duty in Vietnam. Otherwise, he has lived in Cumberland County all of his life. He and his wife, Michelle Ann, raised their two sons, Steve and Jay, on the Plateau.

Among a myriad of accomplishment, Sabine organized the Scholastic Chess program in the schools. These programs brought 25 state championships for Cumberland County School teams and two National Junior High Championships for Martin Elementary. He is now the witness to the second generation of chess players that he is teaching. Perhaps his most notable accomplishment was that of bringing the United States of America Chess Federation to Crossville. Also, Sabine completed his third consecutive term as a member of the Cumberland County Commission representing the First Civil District in August. During his time on the commission, he served on the budget committee and was a promoter of the new library, and he now serves as chair of the library board of directors.

“It is evident that Mr. Sabine cares deeply about Cumberland County and continues to be proactive in making our area an even more desirable place to live. His positive impact on the youth of the county is undeniable. We are honored to announce Harry as our latest inductee into our prestigious Hall of Fame,” said Jon Hall, CCHS principal.

The public is invited to join CCHS at a reception to honor Harry Sabine, the 2014 inductee into the Cumberland County High School Hall of Fame. The reception will take place Thursday at 4 p.m. in the CCHS library, prior to the annual homecoming parade. Sabine will participate in the parade immediately after the reception and will be officially inducted into the Hall of Fame prior to the homecoming football game Friday night.

Other homecoming events include the community pep rally and bonfire, set for Thursday at the conclusion of the parade in the gold parking lot of the school.
