“GOVERNOR HASLAM NEEDS TO BE IMPEACHED” – STATE REP WOMICK

A Tennessee State Representative has been calling for the impeachment of Governor Bill Haslam.

Murfreesboro Republican Rick Womick is speaking out about his displeasure over the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage and the Governor’s acceptance of the decision.

In a post to his Facebook page last night Womick wrote:

“I think it’s time to give serious consideration to impeachment hearings against Gov. Haslam and these five rogue SCOTUS justices!”

The post also includes a video of a South Carolina Senator’s speech against gay marriage.

Representative Womick said the governor bowed down to five appointed gods in black robes just minutes after they issued their opinion.

“He should have called a special session of the Tennessee general assembly and sat down with us and said, ‘Okay what do we do? How do we proceed with this? Do we abide by it? Do we ignore it?’” Rep. Womick said.

Rep. Womick said essentially the governor has violated his oath by failing to defend Tennessee’s laws and constitution.

Womick suggested considering impeachment proceedings against the five U.S. Supreme Court Justices as well as the governor.

“There’s a group of us in the House who have discussed the possibility of impeachment proceedings against the governor because he swore an oath to carry out the laws of this state, laws passed by the General Assembly, and he swore an oath to uphold the constitution of this state as well as the United States Constitution,” Rep. Womick said.

Other Republican lawmakers laughed at the thought of impeaching Haslam.

“I don’t really think impeaching the governor or something is what we need to be talking about right now,” said Representative Jeremy Durham. “A lot of us are mad, and perhaps some folks want to be a little more critical of the U.S. Supreme Court, but it is what it is and it doesn’t change their ruling.”

Womick represents the 34th district and has served as a state congressman since 2010. (WTVF)
