Gov. Haslam signs 48-hour abortion wait bill

Gov. Bill Haslam has signed a law forcing women to wait 48 hours after consultation with a doctor about an abortion before the procedure can be done.

It would also require doctors to tell women about the risks involved of an abortion and carrying the pregnancy to term. The only exception to the waiting period would be in the case of an emergency.

The law also specifies that violating it would be considered a felony.

Tennessee is now one of 28 states with some kind of abortion waiting period.
