Whether you dread it or welcome it, The 38th consecutive 127 Yard Sale officially starts Thursday, August 1 through Sunday, August 4, 2024 and some local residents are beginning to set up.

The 127 Yard Sale began in 1987 when former Fentress County Executive Mike Waller planned the event to draw tourists to the area. It caught on and now the “World’s Longest Yard Sale” stretches some 690 miles along Highway 127 from Michigan to Alabama.

The 127 Yard Sale brings visitors from across the country and around the world, and an increase in road traffic.  Motorists are urged to drive with patience and remember that tourists may be easily confused by all the road construction. Watch out for eager bargain hunters who may suddenly slow down for a treasure and children who may dart across the road.
