‘DUKES OF HAZZARD’ ACTOR JAMES BEST DIES

635639923476879830-james-bestLongtime actor James Best, who is best known for his role as Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane on “The Dukes of Hazzard,” died Monday night at age 88.

Best died after a brief illness and complications from pneumonia, according to an obituary posted on his professional website.

Not only was Best an acclaimed television actor, appearing in hundreds of shows, but also had roles in 83 films, including “The Cain Mutiny” with Humphrey Bogart and “Shenandoah” with Jimmy Stewart.

However, it was his role as Rosco P. Coltrane, which made Best a household name.

His obituary reads, “In many ways, it (his role as Coltrane) was an ironic yet natural fit for Jimmie, the fabled Hollywood rebel, to comically portray a character who is a blundering fool at trying to enforce laws and outwit rural rule-benders like ‘those Duke boys.'”
