A bill that would ban the use of a cell phone without a hands-free device while driving passed the Tennessee Senate on Tuesday with a 23-7 vote.  The goal is to have drivers across the state of Tennessee drive with a hands-free device if they choose to talk on a phone.

Drivers would be allowed to use a mounting device or bluetooth.

The bill will now head to Governor Bill Lee’s desk. If approved, it will go into effect July 1, 2019.
