DRIVER SAID HIS GPS TOOK THEM TO TRAIN TRACKS – TRUCK HIT BY TRAIN
Two people were taken into custody Saturday night following an accident involving a pickup truck and train in Knoxville.
The Knoxville Police Department says it happened around 10:50 p.m. near Oak Avenue and Blackstock Avenue, behind The Foundry.
The occupants of the 1994 blue Ford F350 pickup, who have been identified as 27-year-old Dustin Collins and 22-year-old Zackary Peabody, told officers their GPS brought them into the train yard and onto the tracks, getting their truck stranded. They were able to get out of the vehicle before it was hit by the train.
KPD says Collins and Peabody were intoxicated and that there was alcohol in their truck. However, they told police they started drinking after the crash.
Police took Collins and Peabody into custody for public intoxication and criminal trespassing.
Train traffic was interrupted for about two hours while the accident was cleared.
